In Feb 2015, Austmann, in collaboration with Ø Bryg from Denmark, made a beer using seaweed supplied by SES, called Sea ESB.
The seaweed was dried, smoked and added to the beer, a traditional English bitter, produced just next door to our laboratory in Trondheim.
Grown in clean, Atlantic seawater without any added substance or fertilization, the seaweed is an organic natural product and is in demand as food in Europe and Asia. In Norway we are not so used to eating algae yet, but we think the beer is a product most Norwegians may like.
Austmann Brewery is a craft brewery who are constantly looking for new and exciting flavors that nature has to offer. It was an exciting project, and the first food product SES has taken part in. Sold in Vinmonopolet shops nationwide.
