Kaia has a MSc in Marine Coastal Development (Dept. of Biology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim). Her master thesis resulted in a method for sori disinfection that mitigate contaminating microalgae in the initial cultivation stages of S. latissima. The work was part of a larger project on integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) lead by SINTEF. In 2012 she joined SES to build up the Hatchery and Breeding Center in Trondheim, and has been leading the hatchery development from R&D to pilot scale. Parallel to that, she has been working in the sea farm for several seasons, and has gained hands-on experience from the whole seaweed cultivation chain. Since late 2015, Kaia has been managing the Norwegian cultivation, on land and at sea. In addition she advises partners on biological matters for seaweed farming, supervises master students and gives introduction courses on seaweed cultivation. Kaia speaks Norwegian and English.
